Q. By what date must the exam be completed?
A. You must complete your exam online prior to March 1 of the next year. For example, if you purchased the 2009 manual, you must complete the test before March 1, 2010. There will be no extensions or refunds, if you fail to complete the exam prior to deadline date.
Q. How do I take the exam?
A. Upon your original purchase we will e-mail your Login information, once received you may log in from our home webpage and access the Student Center. The Student Center houses the testing information.
Q. Can I purchase the manual only?
A. Yes; you may purchase the test at a later date for an additional fee (currently $75).
Q. While taking the test online, how much time do I have?
A. Up to Five (5) hours
Q. How often can I take the test for CFP® credit?
A. Once per two-year cycle (based on your anniversary date).
Q. What if I do not receive a passing grade on the test?
A. You may take the test two more times at no additional charge (the $75 test fee allows you three attempts to pass the exam). If you do not pass after 3 attempts, you will not receive CE credits.
Q. How many questions are on the test?
A. 100 questions - chosen randomly from six questions banks (General Principles, Insurance, Investments, Income Tax, Retirement, Estate).
Q. Will you be updating the manual?
A. A new, updated manual will be available around March 1 every year.
Q. How many questions must I answer correctly to pass the exam?
A. You must get at least 70% of the 100 questions correct in order to receive 10 hours of CFP® Continuing Education credits. If you get a score below 70%, you will not receive any CEs.
Q. Can I pass the exam without first studying the accompanying reference manual?
A. The exam is difficult. The chance of passing the exam without fiirst studying the reference manual is not high. Although the Keeping Current exam is not at the level of difficulty of the CFP Board exam.
Q. Is the manual available by download?
A. At present, we are only making a hardcopy of the manual available. Depending on demand, we make offer the manual in a downloadable format in the future.
Q. Does the test have to be taken online?
A. Yes, the test must be taken online as it is a timed test.
Q. Do I have to complete the exam in one sitting?
A. No, just log out when you want to stop the test process and log back in when you are ready to begin the exam again. You have 5 hours to complete the exam.
Q. If I need to retake the exam, will the questions I am asked on the 2nd or 3rd exam be different?
A. Yes. There may be a few repeat questions (but just a few) because each test is composed of randomly selected questions from 6 different very large question banks. The odds of you getting more than a few repeat questions is almost zero.
Q. If I do not take the exam before March 1 of the year following the year I purchase the manual, what happens?
A. You must re-register for the test at the current reregistration fee (the current cost for rer-egistering for the exam is $75). There are no refunds.
Q. How are the questions on the exam formatted?
A. They are all in the form of multiple choice questions.
Q. Can I purchase the exam only?
A. No - with one exception: If you have previously purchased the current year manual and failed to pass the exam in three attempts, then you can purchase the exam by itself. You may purchase the manual and exam in the same transaction or you may purchase the manual alone.
Q. Other than CFP® Continuing Education credits, are you offering other CEs or CPEs for state insurance, CPAs, attorneys, CLUs, etc.?
A. Yes, you may also receive 24 state insurance credits if you hold a license in the States of FL, GA, SC, NC, AL, TX, CA or PA.
Q. After I have successfully passed the test, how do I get 10 hours of CFP® continuing education credits?
A. We will electronically file your CE credits with the CFP Board and/or appropriate insurance agency. You will receive an e-mail notice that the credits have been filed.
Q. What is the total number of CFP Board continuing education credits I will receive for successfully passing the exam?
A. Ten (10) hours of CFP Board continuing education credits.
Q. How soon after I successfully complete the exam will the CFP Board be notified?
A. Generally, no later than the next business day after you successfully complete the exam.
Q. Will you be offering other courses in the future?
A. Yes. We are currently working on more online CE type classes. If you have never attended our classes (Live Review or CE), please add yourself by choosing Become a Member.
Q. Does passing the exam satisfy my CFP Board ethics requirement?
A. Absolutely NOT. You will need to fulfill the ethics requirement from a different source.
Q. Do I need my CFP® license number to register for CFP Board continuing education credits?
A. Yes, but if you do not have a CFP® license number, you can use the last 4 digits of your Social Security number when registering. Note: if you do not need CFP® CE credits, you do not need to enter your CFP® license number or the last 4 digits of your S.S. number.
